Terms of Use

These terms and conditions apply to the Balm app (the “Application”) for iPhone, created by Earthling Apps (the “Service Provider”) as a Freemium service. By downloading or using the Application, you agree to these terms. Please read them, alongside our Privacy Policy, before using the Application.

Not a medical device

Balm is a diary for informational and wellness purposes only. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it does not predict, diagnose or treat any condition. Any reference figures it shows (such as MIDAS grades or medication-overuse thresholds) are for your information, not a diagnosis. Always seek the advice of a qualified health professional with any questions about a medical condition or medication. If a headache is sudden and the worst you have had, or comes with weakness, confusion, a stiff neck, fever, or follows an injury, seek emergency care.

Licence and intellectual property

You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Balm on Apple devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these terms and the App Store Terms of Service. Unauthorized copying or modification of the Application or our trademarks is prohibited, as are attempts to extract the source code, translate the Application into other languages, or create derivative versions. All trademarks, copyrights, database rights and other intellectual property rights related to the Application remain the property of the Service Provider.

Changes to the service

The Service Provider is dedicated to making the Application as useful and efficient as possible and reserves the right to modify the Application, or to charge for its services, at any time and for any reason. Any charges will be made clear to you.

Your device and security

The Application stores and processes information on your device in order to provide the service. It is your responsibility to keep your phone and access to the Application secure. We advise against jailbreaking or rooting your phone — removing the software restrictions imposed by the official operating system — as it could expose your phone to malware or viruses, compromise its security features, and may cause the Application not to function correctly.

Third-party services

The Application uses third-party services that have their own terms and conditions. Balm uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions, Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics) for usage analytics and crash reporting, and in-app purchases processed by Apple. Apple Weather, Apple Health and iCloud are Apple services subject to Apple’s terms.

Connectivity and reliance

Some functions of the Application require an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data). The Service Provider cannot be held responsible if the Application does not work at full capacity due to lack of connectivity, and you are responsible for any data charges, including roaming charges, incurred while using it. The Application also relies on third parties for some information (for example the weather forecast); the Service Provider accepts no liability for any loss, direct or indirect, you experience from relying entirely on that functionality, and is not responsible for matters such as your device running out of battery.

Updates and termination

The Service Provider may update the Application from time to time; operating-system requirements may change, and you may need to download updates to keep using it. The Service Provider does not guarantee it will always update the Application to be compatible with your device, but you agree to accept updates when offered. The Service Provider may also cease providing the Application, or terminate its use, at any time without notice; upon termination the rights and licences granted to you end, and you must stop using and (if necessary) delete the Application.

Subscriptions

Balm offers an optional subscription, Balm Plus. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your App Store account settings. Where a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

Purchases and refunds

All in-app purchases and refunds are processed by Apple. When you request a refund from Apple, you consent to the Service Provider sharing information about your purchase and your use of the Application with Apple to help resolve your request, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Application is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Application will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any estimate or reference figure it shows is accurate for your situation.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service Provider will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Application.

Changes to these terms

The Service Provider may update these terms from time to time. You are advised to review this page regularly; changes will be posted here, and continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms. These terms are effective as of 23 September 2026.
