Questions people ask
Short answers, honestly given.
How do I track my migraines and headaches on iPhone?
Open Balm and tap to start an attack — it takes two taps. When you feel better you can add pain, symptoms, triggers and the medication you took. Over time Balm builds a calendar and a one-page report you can share with your doctor.
Does Balm track both migraine and headache?
Yes. Balm is a migraine and headache diary. You can log migraine, tension-type or cluster headaches and record the type, symptoms and triggers for each.
What is a MIDAS score, and does Balm calculate it?
MIDAS (the Migraine Disability Assessment) is a short, widely used questionnaire that scores how much migraine disrupts your life. Balm includes it and tracks your score over time, so you and your doctor can see the change.
Can weather or barometric pressure trigger a migraine?
Many people find that changes in barometric (air) pressure affect their migraines. Balm shows an air-pressure forecast from Apple Weather and records the pressure with each attack, so you can see the pattern for yourself.
Can I show my migraine history to my doctor?
Yes. Balm turns your diary into one clear page — headache and migraine days, your MIDAS score, medication days against reference thresholds, and the patterns it found. You can also export everything as CSV.
Does Balm track my triggers?
Yes. You can record triggers, symptoms and what you took with each attack, and Balm surfaces the patterns — like short sleep or a drop in air pressure — that tend to go with your migraines.
Is my migraine data private?
Your diary is stored on your iPhone, and you can use Balm without creating an account. There are no ads, and your diary is never sold. You can optionally turn on private iCloud sync to keep it across your own devices.
Does Balm work without an account or the internet?
Yes. You can log attacks and see your diary without an account. Some extras use a connection, but tracking a migraine never requires you to sign up.
Is Balm a medical device?
No. Balm is a diary for informational and wellness use. It does not predict, diagnose or treat any condition. If a headache is sudden and severe, or comes with other worrying symptoms, seek medical care.
Which iPhones does Balm work on?
Balm runs on iPhone with iOS 17 or later, and also works from your Lock Screen, a widget and Apple Watch. It's designed for iPhone.
How much does Balm cost?
Balm is free to download and start tracking. Balm Plus is an optional subscription for people who want more.
